Joey Ivie, Pasco (6-foot-5, 265 pounds)
The latest: USF is the second of Florida’s big schools to offer the Pirates junior defensive lineman when the Bulls extended a scholarship opportunity Tuesday night, Pirates coach Tom McHugh said in a text message. Miami offered Ivie earlier this month. It’s the junior’s fifth BCS offer, after Texas Tech, Iowa State, Purdue and Miami, and his first offer from the Big East. His scholarship opportunities from nine schools are the most in the North Suncoast.
Offers: UMass, Western Kentucky, Iowa State, FIU, Bowling Green, Purdue, Texas Tech, Miami, USF
Last season: Ivie was second on the team with 53 tackles during the regular season. He also had eight sacks and forced two fumbles. He was at his best during the defensive line’s dominant performance against Jesuit in the Class 5A region final.
Bottom line: Ivie was one of Pasco’s most underrated players during its run to the state semifinal. He’s strong and quick off the line and has great potential. Expect him to be one of the North Suncoast’s top linemen this season.
