Lakewood wide reciever Rodney Adams picked up another suitor Tuesday as Vanderbilt made a verbal offer to the Spartan pass catcher.

"It pretty much came out of nowhere,'' said Adams, who said hadn't heard anything from the Commodore coaches until Wednesday.

Adams, ranked No. 5 in the Times Top 25 for 2013, is coming off an All-Suncoast season in which he led the Spartans in touchdown receptions and receiving yards.

Vanderbilt continues to be active in Tampa Bay after landing top 10 recruits like Armwood quarterback Josh Grady in 2011 and Armwood offensive lineman Kevin McCoy this past signing day. The Commodores are also already in on the 2013 class, with offers to Adams and Hawk safety Leon McQuay, another top 5-rated prospect.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound receiver also has offers from USF, San Diego State, Florida, FSU, Miami, Oklahoma and Toledo.
