ST. PETERSBURG — With district tournaments beginning next week, Thursday’s Vinoy Invitational was the last chance for some teams to prepare. Lakewood Ranch proved it is more than ready for the postseason after firing a team score of 5-under 279 to win by 21 over Sarasota Riverview.
Lakewood Ranch, the defending Class 2A state champion, had only one player shoot over par on Vinoy’s par-71 course. Ramsey Touchberry won medalist honors with 4-under 67, defeating Northside Christian’s Anthony Quintessenza in a one-hole playoff.
St. Petersburg was third among the 24 teams. Clearwater Central Catholic was a shot behind at 307, as were Mitchell and Jesuit.
Jack Maguire shot even-par 71 to lead the Green Devils. Donald Wasoff of Countryside and Austin Stephens of Northeast also shot 71s.
Quintessenza had the best round among local players. He said his round was a bit up and down, but he’ll take it.
“I had seven birdies and three bogeys,” Quintessenza said. “It’s kind of a good way to end the regular season. It’s nice to be playing well at this time of the year.”
Countryside and Palm Harbor University tied for seventh (309). East Lake shot 316 and Tampa Catholic had 318 to round out the top 10.
Danny Walker shot 2-under 69, Ben Bouch carded even-par 71 and Luke Miller had 72 for Lakewood Ranch.
