Volleyball
Hillsborough Super 7

1. Berkeley Prep (11-11): Continuing a season-long pattern, the Bucs handled local opponents — Steinbrenner and Clearwater Central Catholic — with ease but struggled against out-of-town opponents in last weekend’s prestigious Tampa Bay Invitational tournament.

2. Wharton (17-0): The Wildcats have rolled through a four-game stretch that included Steinbrenner, Newsome and Freedom. It seems safe to assume they will finish the regular season undefeated.

3. Tampa Catholic (13-6): The Crusaders bounce back into action Wednesday against Holy Names after a week-long layoff. Because nothing has happened, good or bad, there’s no reason to move them out of this spot.

4. Riverview (13-5): Winners of five straight, the Sharks must get through Brandon on Thursday, then close with the relatively tough duo of Newsome and Plant.

5. Steinbrenner (13-7): The Warriors beat Clearwater Central Catholic but mostly struggled against elite teams at the Tampa Bay Invitational. They bounced back with a 3-0 win over slumping Plant.

6. Durant (10-3): The Cougars make their first appearance in the Super 7 after winning nine of their past 10 matches. That lone defeat came at Wharton, which shouldn’t be held against them.

Tampa Prep (9-12): A bunch of teams were considered for the final spot in the rankings — Freedom, Bloomingdale, Newsome and even Robinson. But the Terrapins have played a difficult schedule and their record doesn’t reflect their strength.
