Former Palm Harbor University standout middle hitter Leah McNary has continued to shine at the collegiate level.
McNary, a true freshman volleyball player for Creighton, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week today for her performance in two victories last week.
McNary recorded a season-high 16 kills -- the most for a Bluejay freshman since Allie Oelke in 2007 -- in Creighton's four-game win over Illinois State on Friday. She also added three blocks, two digs and spurred a set-ending, 5-0 run to close out the second game with a kill and a block.
On Saturday against Indiana State, McNary led the Bluejays with nine kills in a 3-0 sweep.
McNary had her redshirt lifted on Sept. 8 and plays as a right-side hitter for the Bluejays.
As a senior at PHU, McNary was named to the St. Petersburg Times' All-Pinellas volleyball first team. McNary was a Times' second-team selection following her junior season.
