Volleyball: Steinbrenner, Plant dominate

The Steinbrenner and Plant volleyball teams, two of Hillsborough County's top squads, took their lumps in the early season Buchholz GatorTown Tournament two weekends ago.

But both teams appear to be back on the right track after earning impressive three-game wins over county foes Wednesday night.

Steinbrenner (6-3) beat rival Sickles 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 at home for their third straight win.

Warriors hitter Kristen Liguori (right) led Steinbrenner with 14 kills, including 7 in Game 1. Setter Erin McMurtry has a team-high 33 assists and libero Cary Anne Bame tallied 10 digs.

The Panthers (5-2) won their second straight match in three games since losing to Clearwater in three games in Gainesville, beating Durant

Tina Catanach had 15 kills and 20 digs in Plant's 25-15, 25-15, 25-21 win over the Cougars.

Callie Henley added a team-high 16 kills, while libero Charlotte Hill had 20 digs and setter Maren Douglas had 40 assists for the Panthers.
