Kara Betourne and Alex Sevillano won a championship together as members of the Tornadoes’ 1997 state title team.

Now, the two are pitted against one another as coaches.

On Wednesday, Betourne won temporary bragging rights after her Clearwater Tornadoes defeated Sevillano’s St. Petersburg Green Devils 25-11, 25-17, 25-22.

The Tornadoes (2-0) were led offensively by left side hitter Nikki O’Rourke and middle hitter Sara Myslicki and defensively libero Caitlin Stoner, a Countryside transfer, shined.

“We played well tonight, but St. Pete showed a lot of promise,” Betourne said. “They’re well-coached. The last game, they gave us a good run. They’re tough.”

St. Petersburg is 1-2.
