HomeTeam Hot Shots
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.
Male Hot Shot: Joe Predoehl, Springstead
Skinny: The senior linebacker was the catalyst in the Eagles’ impressive 38-0 win over Fivay — their second shutout in two games. Predoehl led the defense with an early interception and a fumble recovery which set up a touchdown run. He also blocked a punt deep in Fivay territory and recovered it in the end zone for another score. Predoehl isn’t the biggest player at 5-foot-8, 147 pounds, but has impressed coaches after moving from cornerback to linebacker in his third year on the varsity team. “He gets the most out of the ability he has been given,” coach Bill Vonada said. Predoehl recorded 39 tackles, one fumble and one interception last fall.
Female Hot Shot: Taylor Anderson, Mitchell
Sport: Girls swimming
Skinny: The sophomore continues to plow through the school’s record book. She set a Mustangs record in the 100 freestyle last week (55.29 seconds) and also claimed a record in the 50 free (24.38 seconds). Anderson swam an even faster 50 time on the anchor leg of Mitchell’s winning 200 free relay (24.12 seconds) against Gulf and Anclote. Anderson’s success should come as no surprise. She broke the school record in the 100 breast (1:11.60) as a freshman and helped set three school relay records. Anderson also earned third-team all-conference honors in the pole vault and was honored by the school as one of its top scholar athletes.
