Warriors hire girls soccer coach

Former Durant and University of Tampa defensive standout Angela Gillisse has been hired as girls soccer coach at Steinbrenner, Principal Brenda Grasso announced Wednesday.

A 2002 UT graduate who played in 58 career games for the Spartans, Gillisse replaces Robert Woodard, who resigned after only one season, during which the Warriors finished 16-4-2 and captured a district crown. Gillisse inherits a program only two years removed from a state championship.

Gillisse was a first-team pick on both the Times' all-Hillsborough County team and all-Western Conference Federal Division squad as a Durant senior in 1998. She previously served as athletic director at St. Mary's Episcopal Day School in Tampa after earning a master's degree in education with a specialty in sports management.

She'll teach health and physical education at Steinbrenner.
