Warriors' Turner picks Florida Gulf Coast

Versatile Steinbrenner rising senior Chase Turner, a .354 hitter last spring, has committed to Florida Gulf Coast University, Warriors coach John Crumbley announced Monday morning.

Primarily a first baseman/outfielder this past season, Turner will become the first four-year Warriors player to sign with a Division I program, Crumbley said. Turner has been at Steinbrenner since it began playing baseball in 2010.

Lean and rangy, Turner (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) collected six extra-base hits and nine RBI while stealing six bases as a junior.
