Wesley Chapel head coach Ben Alford confirmed that rising sophomore quarterback Alex McGough had left the program and transferred to Gaither.
Alford said McGough informed him of the move last week. McGough lined up for the Wildcats in the first week of the Pasco County 7-on-7 league last Tuesday but was absent from today's session at Wesley Chapel.
Playing behind an inexperienced offensive line, McGough was a freshman starter at quarterback for Wesley Chapel in 2010 and threw 102 passes, completing 42 of them for a 41% completion percentage. He passed for 418 yards and one score but also had eight interceptions.
McGough, who is listed at 6-foot-2, 150 pounds, was expected to show more of his natural throwing ability behind a stronger, more experienced Wildcats line in 2011. Now, Wesley Chapel will likely start Angel Locicero at quarterback this season. Locicero, a rising senior, received most of the snaps during Week 2 play in the Pasco County 7-on-7 league.
Alford said Locicero is "one of the best if not the best defensive end in Pasco County" but has never taken a snap under center before. He'll likely play both offense and defense for Wesley Chapel this fall.
