Wesley Chapel will be without two of its top players for Friday’s matchup with Orlando First Academy.

RB Daquan Caesar and WR/DB Chris Ayers will miss the Week 2 game, Wildcats coach Ben Alford said Thursday night via Twitter.

Alford did not give a reason for their absence but said in a text message that Ayers and Caesar will both be back for the district opener against Zephyrhills on Sept. 21.

Caesar was one of Week 1’s breakout players. He rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns on 34 attempts, carrying the load for the Wildcats’ 30-6 comeback win over Wiregrass Ranch.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Caesar ranks second in the North Suncoast and fourth in all of Tampa Bay in rushing.

Ayers, a 6-foot senior, is also a key offensive contributor for Wesley Chapel. His top play was a 51-yard punt return against the Bulls. Ayers tallied 46 tackles and two interceptions last fall.
