Wharton challenging Berkeley for No. 1 in Hillsborough volleyball super 7 (with stats)

Hillsborough Super 7
1. Berkeley Prep (8-8): After another underwhelming performance in another major tournament, the Bucs hold on to the top spot by the narrowest of margins. If Berkeley Prep doesn’t fare better in the Tampa Bay Invitational, there will be some changes in next week’s rankings.

2. Wharton (15-0): Led by Caci Andreychuk and Ashton Stocker, the Wildcats have enough size, depth and athleticism to make a claim to No. 1. Their domination of Steinbrenner earlier this week was impressive.

3. Tampa Catholic (13-6): The Crusaders are coming off a pair of losses to out-of-county teams, including undefeated Clearwater Central Catholic. They’ll likely rebound against Holy Names.

4. Steinbrenner (9-4): Even in defeat, the Warriors acquitted themselves well at times against No. 2 Wharton. Assuming senior Madison Seuzeneau returns to the lineup, they’ll still be formidable.

5. Riverview (12-5): The Sharks haven’t been challenged since losing to Mitchell in Tampa Catholic’s tournament. That probably won’t change until an Oct. 15 matchup against Newsome.

6. Freedom (10-4): The Patriots need to not overlook Gaither and East Bay before their big match Tuesday at Wharton. We’ll find out if Freedom is for real then.

7. Bloomingdale (10-9): The Bulls move back into the Super 7 after beating Newsome 3-1 in Lithia. They’ll have a chance to move up — or down — with three of their last five against Plant, Wharton and Steinbrenner.
