Wharton's Mike Alford has won the No. 1 singles title in today's final round of the Class 4A boys state tennis team championships.

Alford made quick work of Cypress Bay's Ryan Smith, 6-2, 6-2, in the final.

Wharton No. 4 Jon Ho also won his bracket, beating Miami Palmetto's Trevor Newman, 6-1, 6-2.

Wildcats No. 2 Ben Hwang lost 6-2, 6-2 to Cypress Bay's Luis Elizondo, and No. 3 Rohit Navelkar fell 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 to Miami Dr. Krop's Arturo Altamirano.

Wharton leads Cypress Bay 12-11 in points heading into doubles. Both teams have their No. 1 and 2 doubles teams alive.

In girls action, Plant No. 2 singles player Blair Martin, a freshman, won 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. The Panthers are currently tied for second among Class 4A teams after Martin's win and a win at No. 1 doubles by Amber Li and Claire Mitchell Andrews.
