Reports surfaced Monday the Florida Gators had hired D.J. Durkin from Stanford as an assistant coach for defense and special teams. If true -- and we should know more about that today -- this could have a direct impact on the recruitment of Gibbs star DE Tim Jackson.

Stanford is one of Jackson’s favorites at the moment, and Durkin was heavily involved in Jackson’s recruitment. In fact, it was Durkin who made the Cardinal’s in-home visit with Jackson in late November.

In an interview with the Times two weeks ago, Jackson said North Carolina, Stanford and Wake Forest were his leaders. We’re currently trying to reach Jackson to see if Durkin’s decision to leave will affect his thinking. Once we hear back, we will let you know what Jackson, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound standout, had to say.
