It's been an up-and-down season so far for the Wiregrass Ranch volleyball team, but this past weekend at the inaugural Fivay Invitational, the Bulls finally strung together a number of complete performances in succession to win the championship.

Wiregrass Ranch defeated Hernando 25-23, 15-25, 15-11 in the final, a day after the Leopards handed the Bulls their only loss of the tournament. Hernando took second place in the tournament.

"I think our girls are starting to believe in themselves," Wiregrass Ranch coach Mindy Kantor said. "We feel like we can do it on a more consistent basis."

Wiregrass Ranch (10-8) went 4-1 overall at the Fivay Invitational. On Friday, the Bulls defeated host Fivay in three games before being they were swept by Hernando.

Saturday, the Bulls swept Hudson, then beat Zephyrhills in three games to advance to the championship match. Two days earlier, the Bulls were defeated in four games by Zephyrhills in a regular season match on the Bulls home court.

Against Hernando in Saturday's championship, the Bulls were able to limit their mistakes to topple the Leopards.

"The girls were determined," Kantor said. "They wanted to prove to Hernando that they belonged in the final. They were hungry."
