Wiregrass Ranch junior forward Kelly McCaffrey reached 1,000 points for her high school basketball career in the fourth quarter of the Bulls' home game Friday on Senior Night against First Baptist Christian School.
McCaffrey, who had 25 points against First Baptist, is averaging 15 points a game and has 370 points total for the 2010-11 season.
With the district tournament beginning this week and the possibility of playing more games in the regional tournament, McCaffrey has a good chance to reach at least 1,500 points by the time her prep career is complete next season.
"She's only a junior, so she's still got time," Wiregrass Ranch coach Greg Finkel said.
Plus, the Bulls graduate a couple of their leading scorers after this season, and McCaffrey will be asked to pick up more of the scoring load as a senior.
"She'll be our go-to person next year, and, hopefully, she can average around 22 to 23 points for us," Finkel said.
McCaffrey leads the Bulls in scoring, assists (71) and steals (84) and is second on the team in rebounds (7.6 per game).
