Zephyrhills' Roberts makes things official with Kent State

All-purpose back Jamal Roberts signed with Kent State on Wednesday, accepting a full ride worth $150,000 to the Division I school in Ohio.

Roberts, who has lined up at quarterback and wide receiver, as well as played in the secondary on defense since his days at Weightman Middle School. That did not change in one season on the Zephyrhills junior varsity or in three varsity seasons. As a senior, he combined for 1,572 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Roberts, who said he will be a receiver at Kent State, has a 3.3 grade-point average and plans to major in education.

He played in the FACA all-star game and was named FACA District Player of the Year. He also made the Sunshine Athletic Conference first team on offense.

As a junior, Roberts led the Bulldogs with 605 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
