80-year-old tried to kill ex-wife, her husband, police say

CLERMONT — An 80-year-old Groveland man tried to kill his ex-wife and her new husband Thursday afternoon by tying a gas can to the front of his van and crashing it into their house, police say.

Eladio Cintron was charged with attempted felony murder, arson and trespassing.

He is being held at Lake County Jail, where he was denied bond.

Cintron crashed his Chevrolet van into a house on 10th Street in Clermont.

According to Capt. Eric Jensen of the Clermont Police Department, the home was occupied by Cintron's ex-wife, Angela Modina, and her husband, Ernest Laguna.

No one was injured in the crash, but the house sustained significant damage, and the van was destroyed, Jensen said.

Cintron did not make a statement to police concerning his motives, but Modina and Laguna were recently married, which may have angered him, Jensen said.

Citron and Modina were married for 52 years before divorcing nine years ago, Jensen said.
