Asian-Americans have emerged as the most prolific and impulsive buyers in the nation, according to a Nielsen survey. They prefer Costco over Walmart, brand names over generics and, on average, boast household incomes of $100,000 or more, the highest among multicultural groups. Asian-American spent 19 percent more than overall households in 2012 and, compared with the general population, recorded more trips to warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers and drugstores. They also lead in online buying, with 77 percent making an Internet purchase in the past year, compared with 61 percent of the general population. Moreover, they are digital pioneers, adopting technology faster than any other segment and showing higher rates of smartphone use, online video consumption and Internet connectivity.
