Car stolen with baby in it
A Longwood woman found a 1-year-old boy crawling around her yard Sunday morning, after authorities say the child was abducted when the car he was sitting in was stolen. Deputies say Jamir Abduli Worgs' mother was partying at a house in Altamonte Springs — with her toddler in the car outside — when she let another man, 24-year-old Joshua Barnes, borrow the vehicle. He drove the 2006 Nissan Altima, with the baby inside, to a known drug house, deputies said. He left the car running and unlocked while he went inside, and that's when authorities say 36-year-old David Carver stole the vehicle.
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office issued an Amber alert for the child and found the vehicle at a Wal-Mart in Sanford. But neither Carver nor the child was inside. Authorities said Carver, who was later arrested, may have traded the car for drugs.
Jamir was wet and cold when he was found crawling near the fence, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and is now in the custody of the Sheriff's Office.
Search intensifies for boy, 6
More than 50,000 fliers have been distributed in the hopes of finding a missing 6-year-old boy.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office said Adji Desir (AHD-gee De-ZEER) disappeared from a migrant farmworker village in Immokalee, southeast of Fort Myers, on Jan. 10.
A group of 250 deputies searched a three-quarter-mile radius of Adji's home on Saturday. Lt. Tom Smith said officials would also look at sex offenders in the area.
Authorities say the boy is developmentally disabled and has the mental capacity of a 2-year-old. The FBI has assigned special agents to help.
Strawberry queen follows sister
The newly crowned Florida Strawberry Festival queen made pageant history as the sister of a previous winner. Judges picked 19-year-old Lauren Der during Saturday's competition. Der's sister, Erica, won the crown six years ago.
It's the first time sisters have served as queens. Der is a freshman at Hillsborough Community College studying animal science and is active with Cork United Methodist Church's children's ministry.
