Officials to talk about annexation and other issues

State Rep. Janet Long and Pinellas County Commissioner Robert B. Stewart are to speak at Thursday's meeting of UCAP-USEM. The UCAP group (United Community Associations of Pinellas) is made up of residents of unincorporated Pinellas communities including Tierra Verde, Pasadena, Lealman and Seminole. USEM (Unincorporated Seminole Community Association), which represents the interests of residents of unincorporated central Pinellas County, will soon merge with UCAP. The speakers will address countywide issues including annexation, and there will be a question and answers session.

Educational leap year event has food, fun

Home With A Heart, a community-based human rights group, will host "Leaping into Action" on Friday. Free food, fun and educational activities will be at Pinellas Park's Performing Arts Center. Former Orlando Magic player Derek Strong, who is now a race car driver, will sign autographs, pose for photos with fans and talk about driving safety.

Celebrate opening day with Little League

The Pinellas Park National Little League will have its opening day ceremonies Saturday. The league has recently seen a major increase in the number of children signing up to play ball, which has created an unprecedented 11 T-ball teams this spring. It's the first significant growth in years, according to organizers.

Bluegrass band takes stage next weekend

The Claire Lynch Band, an award-winning bluegrass group, bBluegrass group, will perform next weekend. Raiford Starke, an artist who combines blues, country, folk and rock, will open. Tickets are $22 in advance, $25 at the door.

Enjoy Celtic music

of Marcille Wallis

The Women's Club of Mainlands Unit 6 will host an evening of Celtic music with Marcille Wallis & Friends. Proceeds will benefit several charities. Light refreshments will be served after the concert. Tickets are $8.

Young magicians will talk tricks of trade

The Society of Young Magicians meets the first Saturday of each month at Victory Church. Free magic classes, taught by professional magician Dick Laneau, are open to anyone with an interest.

The next community pancake breakfast for residents of Kenneth City is March 6. Tickets are $3.

Homeowners to meet, share in Irish Night

The next meeting of the Kenneth City Homeowners Association, which meets the second Tuesday of each month, is March 11. The theme of the meeting is Irish Night with a potluck supper including corned beef and cabbage at 6 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7. A performance by Irish step dancers will follow the meeting.
