Surgeons in India successfully removed gallstones from the Dalai Lama on Friday, an operation that will not prevent the Tibetan spiritual leader from traveling again by the end of the month, his spokesman, Chhime R. Chhoekyapa, said. The Nobel Peace Prize-winning Buddhist elder was hospitalized in New Delhi on Thursday, and aides said the 73-year-old had been cleared for foreign travel. Spain's economic woes are myriad but at least one company is sitting pretty: a debt collection agency that has its staff wear tails and top hats to inflict embarrassment. The company is called El Cobrador del Frac, which translates as debt collector in tails. It has been around for 20 years, although things have never been so good since an economy that was once Europe's darling fell into near-recession over the past year. Demand for its services is up 40 percent from last year, and the company plans to boost its staff of 500, commercial director Juan Carlos Granda said.
The museum exhibits are taken from the Old Testament, but the special effects are pure Hollywood: a state-of-the-art planetarium, animatronics and a massive model of Noah's Ark, all intended to explain the origins of the universe from a biblical viewpoint. The Creation Museum, which teaches life's beginnings through a literal interpretation of the Bible, has attracted more than 550,000 people since its May 2007 opening, say officials of the museum near Petersburg in rural northern Kentucky. Scientists say they fear the museum's damaging effects on science education. One display shows humans coexisting with dinosaurs — despite the two species being separated by 65-million years in most science texts. But Lisa Gross, a spokeswoman for the Kentucky Department of Education, says there has been no sign of students challenging science teachers in their classrooms after visits to the museum. "Teachers have been dealing with these things long before the Creation Museum came into being," Gross said.
