Delta flight to tampa returns to detroit
A Delta flight to Tampa returned to Detroit Metropolitan Airport about an hour after departing Friday night because of a disruptive passenger, authorities said. Delta Air Lines spokesman Kent Landers said flight 1721 left the Detroit airport in Romulus about 7:30 p.m. He says the passenger was removed from the plane. Landers didn't have details about what led to the disruption. The airport says the FBI was handling the case. A message seeking comment were left Friday night with the FBI and the Federal Aviation Administration. Landers says the Airbus A320 was carrying 138 passengers and five crew. He said it was expected to fly to Tampa later.
Principal's actions cost district
The Polk County School Board has agreed to pay $120,000 to a family who accused a former elementary school principal of inappropriately hugging their two daughters. David Carmichael, a lawyer for the school district, said the school shouldn't be liable for principal John Stelmack's actions, but said the district feels "responsible for our students." A judge signed the settlement earlier this month. The girls, who have not been identified, will split the money in a college trust fund and pay legal fees. They transferred to another school. The 63-year-old Stelmack was sentenced in 2009 to five years in prison for possessing child pornography and 10 years of sex offender probation. He is appealing.

Lightning injures 2 at football game
Two people are being treated at a hospital after lightning struck a Central Florida football game. The two victims have not been identified and their conditions were not immediately released. Orange County Fire Rescue responded to the stadium in Apopka Friday evening. A fast-moving storm poured rain and sparked lightning over the area. School officials had asked fans to leave the stands before the lightning strike. The game between Wekiva and Apopka high schools was muted by the death of a player who died during practice on Tuesday.
The game will be played today.
