Florida GOP plans straw poll, debate

The Republican Party of Florida will hold a 2012 presidential straw poll and Fox News-partnered debate in September as part of a three-day Orlando event. In a prepared statement, the party said, Presidency 5 "will be a critical test of grass roots support for Republican presidential candidates" to be held Sept. 22-24 at the Orange County Convention Center. "I am proud to announce the details of this important event," said RPOF chairman Dave Bitner. "Presidency 5 will give the candidates an opportunity to bring their message directly to the people of Florida while allowing voters to participate in a poll that has historically predicted the eventual Republican nominee for president."
