Helicopter pilot dies in crash

A helicopter pilot died Sunday when he crashed into dense woods behind a Publix in Titusville. The pilot was the only person onboard the small, yellow helicopter when it went down behind the supermarket on Garden Street, authorities said. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Authorities have not said what caused the crash.


Man sets himself on fire at hospital

A man reportedly set himself on fire in the emergency room of a Daytona Beach hospital. Police say the man, who had some psychological issues, poured some type of accelerant on himself and ignited it at Halifax Health Medical Center. He was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.


Man shoots ex-girlfriend, himself

A man shot and injured his ex-girlfriend and then tried to kill himself as police chased him, authorities say. Haines City police say Augustan Canales, 28, shot Yoelda Estrada, 23, outside a store Saturday with a .22-caliber pistol. He reportedly fired twice, hitting her once in the back. Police say Canales forced the woman into his car, leading authorities on a 10-mile chase. While eastbound on Interstate 4, Canales pulled over and shot himself in the head with a shotgun. Canales and Estrada were both taken to a Lakeland hospital. Canales was in critical condition; Estrada was in stable condition.
