2 killed, 3 hurt in attack on soccer game

Gunmen attacked a soccer game near Duluyiah on Sunday, killing a policeman and a Sunni Muslim allied with the United States against al-Qaida, the U.S. military said. The attack wounded three others, including a 9-year-old and a second member of the local U.S.-backed awakening council, the military said.

A roadside bomb exploded near the house of a police captain in Fallujah on Sunday, killing four policemen and wounding eight others, police said. A roadside bomb struck a truck near Baqubah, 35 miles northeast of Baghdad, police said. The blast injured the driver and his assistant, who later died of their wounds at a nearby hospital, police said.

Prisoner swap with Hezbollah Wednesday

The Israeli government said it will swap prisoners with the Lebanese guerrilla group Hezbollah on Wednesday. Israel will free five Lebanese, including the perpetrator of one of the most notorious attacks in Israeli history. In exchange, Hezbollah will return two soldiers it captured in a cross-border raid that sparked an inconclusive 2006 war. Israel believes the soldiers are dead. Israel said will also turn over the bodies of some 200 Lebanese and Palestinian fighters.

8 killed in shooting, including 3 teenagers

Gunmen opened fire on four cars on a busy street in the Mexican city of Guamuchil, killing eight people, news media said. Three teenagers were among those killed, Sinaloa state officials told the news agency Notimex. The newspaper El Debate said police found about 300 shells at the scene.

Iran: State TV said Sunday the country is exploring a newly discovered oil field believed to contain more than 1-billion barrels of crude oil. The report quotes Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nozari as saying about 220-million barrels are "recoverable."

Turkey: Authorities arrested and charged a man Sunday for his alleged involvement in an attack Wednesday on the U.S. consulate in Istanbul, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported. It was not immediately clear what role he is alleged to have played in the attack, in which three police officers were killed. The suspect is the first to be formally arrested in the investigation.

Sri Lanka: New fighting in Sri Lanka's civil war killed 31 Tamil Tiger rebels and two government soldiers, the military said Sunday.

Sierra Leone: A passenger plane loaded with 1,540 pounds of cocaine was found abandoned at Sierra Leone's main airport Sunday, police said.
