Leesburg Marine dies in combat

Staff Sgt. Michael A. Bock, 26, of Leesburg died Friday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the Defense Department said Monday.

Staff Sgt. Bock was assigned to the I Marine Expeditionary Force.


Solar-powered carts to replace carriages

Solar-powered golf carts will soon shuttle shoppers and tourists around a Central Florida downtown village.

It used to be horse and carriage rides, but by the end of the summer the eco-friendly "Solar Rider" will shuttle shoppers from parking areas to shops and other spots of interest in Cocoa Village.

Volunteers will drive the carts while conducting the tours, stopping along 20 historic sites. The tours on the eco golf carts are free. Tip money will be used to maintain the carts.


Man gets DUI while driving lawn mower

A north-central Florida man has been charged with driving under the influence on a lawn mower. Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy saw Richard Paschen driving a lawn mower with a cup of beer in the cup holder Friday night the town north of Ocala. He told Deputy Gary Miller he'd had "a pretty good bit" to drink and had gotten lost on his way home. Paschen refused a breath test. Paschen has had several DUIs and his driver's license has been suspended.
