Israel's military says its aircraft fired at militants belonging to an al-Qaida-inspired group in Gaza Saturday, a day after rockets hit a house in Israel. LA immigrants to be issued ID
Immigrants would get an official city photo identification card that could also be used as a prepaid ATM card for their private bank account, under a proposal by the mayor of Los Angeles. The mayor says his plan is similar to programs in San Francisco and Oakland, where ID cards are issued to anyone who can prove residency, regardless of immigration status.
22 saved from sinking boat
Nearly two dozen people who were enjoying a bachelor party on what's billed as San Francisco Bay's only "floating wine tasting room" are safe after their boat hit a shoal near Alcatraz Island and began sinking Friday night, officials said. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
Wrongful death claim in shooting
The family of a 32-year-old mother of five shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent as he rode on her car's hood in suburban San Diego has filed a wrongful death claim against the agency, saying the agent had a long history of misconduct and should not have been on the street. The FBI and Chula Vista, Calif., police are investigating the incident.
Man charged in student's death
A martial arts instructor active in community theater was charged Saturday in the death of a 19-year-old University of New Hampshire student who disappeared days earlier. Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott is believed to be dead, and officials continue to search for her body. Police charged Seth Mazzaglia, 29, of Dover, with second-degree murder, but declined to say how the two knew each other or what led to his arrest.
Man arrested in grandma's death
A Utah man is accused of stabbing his grandmother 111 times, prosecutors said in court documents released Friday. Police went to 84-year-old Joyce Dexter's Salt Lake City home on Oct. 3 after neighbors heard screams and called 911. Officers found Zachary Cole Weston, 21, standing over Dexter's body, holding a knife, documents said.
Flap prompts 2nd school dance
