KISSIMMEE — A county jail chief has resigned after two escapes and other security lapses.
Osceola County jail chief Greg Futch told WFTV that he tendered his resignation Monday.
His resignation comes after jail officials acknowledged that deputies released an inmate who falsely identified himself. The inmate hasn't been caught.
One guard is charged with helping an inmate escape Feb. 19. Michael Rigby remains on the loose. A second inmate escaped March 16 but was caught hours later.
County Manager Michael Freilinger said Monday that 16 corrections officers have been fired. He said those officers were among 30 employees who will receive disciplinary action or counseling.
