Prison guards accused of smuggling drugs, phones into prison

Two guards accused of helping inmates

Two guards at a northwest Florida prison are accused of smuggling marijuana and cell phones into the facility. An informant notified authorities of the scheme at Graceville Correctional Facility, Jackson County sheriff's officials said Thursday.

Police say 24-year-old Bradford Daniels would supply contraband to inmates and have them send $1,000 in wire transfers to his girlfriend. The other guard, 23-year-old Matthew Tyler Crawford, helped Daniels bypass the metal detector and searches, police say.

Woman is latest to catch dengue fever

Health officials say a Broward County woman caught dengue fever during a trip to Key West.

Lorelei Happel says she learned Wednesday that lab results showed she had the disease. The 51-year-old says she started feeling sick soon after she arrived home in Wilton Manors from her trip.

A recent study found 5 percent of Key West residents show evidence they have been exposed to the virus, but few became ill.
