Romney tells of tie to slain Navy Seal
Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has been highlighting a more empathetic side of himself, recounting stories of people he knew whose lives were cut short. On Tuesday at a rally in Van Meter, Iowa, he told for the first time of having met Glen A. Doherty, 42, right, who was killed defending the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya.
"You can image how I felt," Romney said, "when I found out he was one of the two former Navy SEALs killed in Benghazi on Sept. 11."
The crowd quietly gasped.
Romney said he had met Doherty at a Christmas party in Southern California in 2009 or 2010. He couldn't be sure which.
