And the new Regis Philbin is …
There's finally someone taking over Regis Philbin's seat, and he's certainly big enough to fill it. The new partner of Kelly Ripa is former New York Giants star Michael Strahan, according to Broadcasting & Cable. So does the title of syndicated daytime talk show now called Live! With Kelly become Live! With Kelly & Michael? Strahan, the NFL's single-season sack record-holder, is no stranger to being in front of the camera. His current job is co-host of Fox NFL Sunday. Strahan also appears in commercials and was the star of the short-lived Fox sitcom Brothers. The former football star was one of 59 co-hosts that Disney ABC Television Group tried out over the past several months, according to USA Today. Strahan reportedly will keep his Sunday NFL gig on Fox, flying from New York to Los Angeles on the weekends. Hmm. Kelly, that kind of commute can really put pressure on a relationship.
Screen Actors Guild to honor Van Dyke
The Screen Actors Guild announced Tuesday that Dick Van Dyke will receive its Life Achievement Award at the 19th Annual SAG Awards. The Jan. 27 ceremony will honor Van Dyke, 86, for his more than five decades (!) in show business. Let's count some of his honors: five Emmys (three for The Dick Van Dyke Show), a Tony (Bye Bye Birdie) and a Grammy (with Julie Andrews for the Mary Poppins soundtrack). "Dick is the consummate entertainer — an enormously talented performer whose work has crossed nearly every major category of entertainment," SAG-AFTRA co-president Ken Howard said, according to Los Angeles Times. Van Dyke presented his former TV co-star, Mary Tyler Moore, with the Life Achievement Award at last year's SAG Awards. Maybe she'll return the favor. Boy, the SAG Awards have been good to Van Dyke. He met his wife, makeup artist Arlene Silver at the 2007 show. They married in February. Dick, now all you need is an Oscar and you can wear an EGOT necklace (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) like Tracy Morgan's character on 30 Rock!
Celeb math: Lohan + party = trouble
Just when we thought Lindsay Lohan was avoiding trouble — cue laughter! — comes this news: Police attempted to questioned the actor in connection with an alleged burglary after an all-night party. Reports made it clear that Linds is not considered a suspect. Whew. We all know that Lohan, 26, is still on probation for a 2011 case involving a $2,500 necklace. According to TMZ, Lohan brought her brother, Cody, her assistant and two unidentified men to the party at a Hollywood Hills mansion. On Monday, the owner realized that several expensive watches and sunglasses were missing and called police. According to TMZ, when the police approached Lindsay and began asking questions, she asked: "Am I a suspect?" When told she wasn't, our Lindsay put her vast legal-system experience to work, blew them off and left. The owner of the house told police he thinks the two men that Lohan brought to the party are the culprits. The case is under investigation.
Another lawsuit in Breezy‑Drizzy dustup
Remember when Chris Brown and Drake engaged in a bottle-throwing brawl at a New York club, allegedly over some singer they both dated? Well, the lawsuits from that June ruckus keep on coming. (You may recall that Tony Parker, NBA star and former Mr. Eva Longoria, said he suffered an eye injury and has sued the club, W.i.P., for $20 million.) This time, the lawsuit is brought by Romain Julien, a French model who is blaming Breezy, Drizzy and the owners of the club for injuries, the New York Post reported Tuesday. Julien said he suffered a severed tendon in his right hand, according to the Post. Julien's lawsuit claims the owners created the situation by not providing proper security. Julien's lawyer, David Jaroslawicz, says his client may not regain full use of his hand. "For male models, having a cosmetic deformity is not something that enhances your career," the lawyer told the Post, adding that his client was "an innocent bystander. He was not dating Rihanna." Gee, maybe someone should sue RiRi!
A New York judge has signed off on the final judgment of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' divorce, according to E! That was a pretty fast transaction, considering TomKat just announced their split just 1 1⁄2 months ago. Now we'd really like to know the details of the settlement.
Oscar winner Hilary Swank and boyfriend John Campisi have decided to end their five-year relationship, People reports. Swank, 38, was previously married to actor Chad Lowe for 10 years. In 2010, she even talked with InStyle about the possibility of marrying again. Guess not.
Rosie O'Donnell says it's a miracle that she's alive after revealing on her website that she suffered a heart attack last week.
According to People, O'Donnell, 50, credits her survival to the taking of an aspirin as she had seen recommended in TV commercials. O'Donnell even wrote a poem titled my heart attack and posted it on rosie.com.
O'Donnell said that doctors inserted a stent after finding that her coronary artery was 99 percent blocked. In a statement, her rep, Cindi Berger, tells People: "She is now home and resting comfortably. She is very, very lucky."
O'Donnell said her problems started on Aug. 14 after she helped an "enormous woman" struggling to get out of her car. A few hours later, she felt pain in her chest and arms, then vomited. But, in denial, she waited until the next day to see a cardiologist.
We're glad she took that aspirin!
O'Donnell hopes women learn from her brush with death. Some excerpts from her poem: they call this type of heart attack/the Widow maker/i am lucky to be here/know the symptoms ladies/listen to the voice inside/the one we all so easily ignore/CALL 911.
