Shuttle and crew take a victory lap
Endeavour and its crew of six left the International Space Station and headed home to close out NASA's next-to-last shuttle flight, pausing just long enough Monday to perform a victory lap and test equipment for a future interplanetary ship. The space station crew beamed down video of the departing shuttle, the last ever shot of Endeavour in orbit. The shuttle is due back in Florida early Wednesday.
Amid gunfight, she kept students safe
A kindergarten teacher in northern Mexico was honored Monday for her courage after a video shot with her cell phone showed her calmly instructing children to duck and cover as drug-related gunfire rattled outside their school. A certificate presented by the governor of the northern state of Nuevo Leon said teacher Martha Rivera Alanis showed "outstanding civic courage" in her steady performance during the gunfight Friday in the northern industrial hub of Monterrey that left five people dead. Rivera Alanis said she was only concerned about the safety of her 5- and 6-year-old students.
Prince, Kate plan July visit to L.A.
Prince William and his bride are headed to Los Angeles as part of their first official overseas trip. William and the former Kate Middleton will visit Canada from June 30 to July 8, then stop in Southern California on July 8-10, royal officials said Monday. The couple, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, married April 29 at Westminster Abbey.
