Both directions of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge were closed late Thursday night after an apparent bomb threat.

The bridge was reopened about 12:30 a.m. Friday after no bomb was found.

The Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release that a citizen called the Manatee County Sheriff's Office shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday about a conversation he said he had with an unknown man on a CB radio.

The man on the CB radio said there was a bomb on the Skyway bridge and it was set to go off at 11:15 p.m., the citizen told authorities.

FHP, Manatee Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the incident, the FHP advisory said. The bridge was closed to motor traffic and boat traffic underneath about 10:44 p.m. while FHP and Coast Guard officials searched for a bomb.

When nothing was found, the bridge was reopened.
