Thieves go on Dodge rampage

A group of thieves has been stealing Dodge Ram pickup trucks and using them to smash into convenience stores in Polk County. They've stolen automated teller machines at least twice.

The Sheriff's Office gave this time line for the thefts:

About 4 a.m. on Nov. 10, thieves used a stolen 1999 silver Ram to crash though the front door of a store in Winter Haven. The truck was left at the scene.

About 4 a.m. Nov. 12, a stolen white 1999 Ram was used to smash into another store. When the truck was recovered, an empty ATM was in its bed.

About 2 a.m. Saturday, a Winter Haven store was broken into and money taken. About 4 a.m., thieves smashed into a gas station. Nothing was taken; the black 2002 Ram that was used was recovered about 5 a.m. Video captured images of the robbers. About 7 a.m., deputies recovered a 1996 red Dodge Ram stolen in Winter Haven. About 1:30 a.m. Monday, a white Dodge Ram stolen in Lakeland smashed into another store; an ATM was taken.
