Tropical Storm Sandy forms

Tropical Storm Sandy developed south of Jamaica on Monday, becoming the 18th named storm of a busy Atlantic season that has seen only two hurricanes make landfall. Sandy was about 400 miles south of Kingston and had winds of 40 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. It is expected to be near or over the island on Wednesday, perhaps with winds close to hurricane strength of 74 mph.

Teen drug dealer gets sentenced

A teenager convicted of selling up to $20,000 worth of high-grade marijuana a month to high school students in southwestern Ohio was sentenced Monday to six months to three years in a juvenile prison. Tyler Pagenstecher, 18, of Mason was one of the most prolific drug dealers in the Cincinnati area, authorities said. He was 17 when he was arrested. Seven adults ages 20 to 58 were arrested in connection with the drug ring.

Oldest Auschwitz survivor dies

The oldest known survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp has died at age 108. Antoni Dobrowolski died Sunday in the northwestern Polish town of Debno, a spokesman at the Auschwitz-Birkenau state museum said Monday. A teacher who gave school lessons to children in defiance of the Nazi occupiers, he was arrested by the Gestapo and sent to Auschwitz in June 1942.
