Whatever your party plans, some style ideas

New Year's Eve is a Monday night this year, which means while some of you will still party with flutes of champagne until the wee hours of the morning, some of you will opt for a quiet night at the house. We've found some affordable style suggestions for you this year, no matter your plans.

Sparkle fest

Listen, no one has to tell us twice to wear glitter. It's all we can do not to wear full-on sequins to work at 10 a.m. Fortunately, New Year's Eve is the one day a year when you do not need permission, y'all. Want to cover every last toe in Swarovski? Do it. Want to wear a cape made of fairy dust? Have fun! Hankering for some fireworks bursting from your chest? Katy Perry isn't the only one! Try this strapless dress from bebe, marked down a cool hundred dollars to $79.99. The X shape around the waist is super-flattering in all those pictures you're about to be tagged in. A cropped leather jacket would toughen up a dress like this just right if you feel a little overdressed.

Work party

Say your boss has invited you over to enjoy some New Year's Eve tapas and his latest shipment of Malbec. You can't really say no, not if you want to live. You need to cover up a little for modesty's sake, but hey, you're not dead. We suggest a drapey cardigan with a touch of holiday glamour, like this one from Lane Bryant, a steal at $19.99.

Then, when you can finally bail and hit the bar, take off that top layer and embrace life with this sparkling cami, also $19.99.

Beer and burgers

If your destination is your buddy's backyard barbecue, make sure to take cover when he sets off all those fireworks on the lanai. You'll want to stay warm with a cute jacket and your favorite jeans. We love this mock-neck number from Old Navy, marked down to just $24.97. The draping shows a nice little bit of whatever fun top you choose to wear underneath, and you can store your cell phone with emergency phone numbers in one of the handy pockets.

Family game night

Maybe you're past the point of waking up with your face in the toilet and more interested in spending a night in with the kiddos. May we suggest Catch Phrase? That game rules. And don a bright color that will keep the kids smiling, like this embellished tee in coral from Ann Taylor Loft. It's normally $49.50, but it's half-off right now when you use the code SAVE50 at checkout online.

Couch party U.S.A.

It's all about pajamas if you're planning to lounge around, stuff your face with Papa Johns and sip $3 Verdi out of a coffee mug while you watch some inevitable Blake Shelton/Bruno Mars/Ke$ha TV performance before the ball drops. We're definitely fans of Elf-style footie pajamas here, but we're also proponents of something a little more glam for special occasions. Try something soft and fancy yet still roomy, like these festive Victoria's Secret Afterhours Satin Pajamas, on sale for $49.99, down from $69.50. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) even wore these on an episode of New Girl, so you know they're good and quirky.

Icing on the cake

No matter what plans you have, don't forget to accessorize. You can take your New Year's Eve look from basic to ballistic with just a smattering of inexpensive baubles. Lots of stores, like Charming Charlie, H&M and Forever 21, play home to interesting, low-priced bling for all ages and sizes. This pretty F21 rhinestone bow bangle is only $3.80, so it won't matter too much if you lose it in the punch bowl.
