An unusual sighting along Panama City Beach on Monday prompted a Facebook post and comments of concern from numerous readers.

A photo, posted to a Facebook group called I Love Panama City Beach by Farrah Beth Bata, shows a prosthetic leg placed upright in the sand after it was found in the water.

"Soooooo super random question.....anyone missing a leg?" the post read. :Found in the water in front of Whispering Seas."

The metal prosthetic appears to be made to fit just below the knee, and is missing a shoe.

Numerous comments in the thread point out that prosthetic legs include serial numbers that would help identify the owner. In a comment, Bata said "there is a serial number on it and we have emailed the manufacturer."
