Kiwanis Club donates for swimming program

The Kiwanis Club of Dunedin recently presented a check to Dunedin for $1,089. The check paid for the expenses of the "Every Child A Swimmer" program, which the Kiwanis Club has sponsored since 2009. The Parks and Recreation Department provided the personnel for four weeks of swimming lessons for kids ages 3 to 11 held at Highlander Pool. The club said 1,000 children have benefitted from the lessons since the program started in 2009.

Palm Harbor gardener recognized for beautification efforts

Palm Harbor Garden Club member and Master Gardener Avis Traester was recently awarded a certificate of appreciation by the garden club for her outstanding work. Traester contributes to civic beautification in Palm Harbor as Blue Star Marker Chair at the Palm Harbor Library and organizes efforts to maintain the club's adopted portion of the Pinellas Trail. Everyone is invited to appreciate her accomplishments when they visit the Library and enjoy the Pinellas Trail. Avis' Master Gardener project for Pinellas County was a butterfly garden at John Chesnut Sr. Park.
