For 25 years, Kim Kasem was over exercising and underfueling her body. Then Dr. Bill Campbell, a University of South Florida associate professor of exercise science helped get her on the right track to health and fitness.

"Back to the basics of science and, with Dr. Campbell's help, I realized that I was way off base," Kasem said. "That's why I wanted to open a place to help other people."

Kasem recently opened PRIDE Strength Training which combines fitness and scientific technology to help athletes and individuals of all fitness levels and ages.

Before building a client's training program, a thorough analysis is done using state-of-the-art equipment. The DARI system uses eight cameras to find assymetries, immobilities, and areas of susceptibilities.

Also, body fat composition and Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) are measured in a controlled environment using research grade equipment.

"We get a lot of really valuable baseline data," said Molly Gower, director of performance and operations.

Another tool used to help athletes is NeuroTracker, which incorporates 3D multi-object tracking visual exercises that are designed to improve cognitive skills.

The spacious training area has cardio equipment, plate loaded Hammer Strength equipment, power racks with inlay platforms, TRX, HiTrainer, and 35 yards of turf for metabolic training.

Athletes can work on their Olympic lifts with Gower, who has a Level 2 USAW Olympic lifting certification.

For anyone with an injury, PRIDE partners with physical therapist Dr. Jason Waz from Competitive Edge Performance. He uses NeuFit technology, which is functional electrical stimulation.

"It's basically reprogramming the nervous system into working properly," Waz said. "Together, we want to bring people's optimum health to the next level."

PRIDE Strength Training is located at 13335 W Hillsborough Ave. For more information, call (813) 730-3000, or visit pridestrengthtraining.com.
