Oldsmar ice cream shop opens right in time for summer

Ice Cream Theory, a new ice cream shop in Oldsmar, offers cool and tasty treats to help beat the summer heat.

"We wanted it to be fun," said co-owner Jessica Weintraub. "We wanted it to be a place for kids to just hang out and enjoy some ice cream."

Husband and wife Steve and Jessica Weintraub recently took over the space formerly occupied by D’Lites Ice Cream, but they redesigned the interior and created a completely different menu.

Customers can choose from several flavors of hand-dipped ice cream, Italian ice, soft serve, frozen yogurt, and gelato.

"The gelato is a huge hit," said Steve Weintraub.

The Weintraubs created "Specialty Concoctions" such as the Cloud Cone, made with ice cream surrounded by handspun cotton candy, and the Sharknado Sundae, which has ice cream, graham cracker crumbles, and is topped with a giant shark gummy.

Flavored waffle cones include toasted coconut, cinnamon brown sugar, orange creamsicle, red velvet, and hazelnut. Many of the waffle cones are dipped in toppings such as sprinkles, gummy bears, crushed candies, and cookies.

The Weintraubs live in the area and want to support local schools by having fundraising events. "We love to give back to the community," said Steve Weintraub.

Ice Cream Theory is at 4058 Tampa Road, No. 8, near Buffalo Wild Wings. It is open from noon to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. For information, call (813) 749-6463, or visit facebook/Ice-Cream-Theory.
