Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar has opened at International Plaza

INTERNATIONAL PLAZA—After a long wait, the highly anticipated Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila bar is finally open for business at International Plaza’s Bay Street on Monday (Feb 12).

Originally expected to open last September, owner Rocco Mangel said they got delayed due to the hurricane and they didn’t want to rush the process.

Hundreds of people stood in line going all the way to the parking lot on Sunday night (Feb 11), to celebrate the grand opening fiesta in the space previously home to nightclub Blue Martini.

Guests enjoyed upbeat music from a live DJ, a cash bar and complimentary signature chips, guacamole, salsa and tequila shots — poured straight from the bottle by Mangel himself, which is a famous Rocco’s tradition.

This marks the eighth location of the West Palm Beach-based Mexican cuisine and Rocco says this one will be like no other, showing the evolution of the brand.

"We don’t think of ourselves as a chain," Mangel said. "Every restaurant is different.

"This location has been meticulously planned to represent the Rocco’s 2.0 experience that can’t be found anywhere else including new menu items and experiences."

After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2016, Rocco turned to a healthier lifestyle, which is reflected in Tampa’s menu. There are wood-burning stoves, rotisserie chickens, gluten-free items, market fresh fish and ceviche and hearty salads. The menu also includes tacos, enchiladas, antojitos varieties and more.

One aspect that won’t change is its vibrant dining atmosphere and embodiment of Mexican culture, including 300 varieties of tequila and signature tableside guacamole.

Rocco’s is open seven days a week for lunch, dinner and late night from 11:30 a.m. to 2 a.m., and prices range from $3.50 to $24.
