Sunshine Skyway Bridge rest areas to be renovated

Why is the rest area on the Sunshine Skyway bridge closed?

The state Department of Transportation has been working on an $18 million project to construct new rest areas and parking lots with LED lights at both the Pinellas County and Manatee County ends of the bridge. One rest area will be open at all times. Construction is expected to be finished by fall 2019.

Other updates:

The Pinellas Trail Bridge across Boca Ciega Bay will be closed from Sept. 10 to Sept. 24 for barricades and fencing to be installed with a message board.

•Florida Avenue from Palm Harbor Boulevard to Omaha Circle and 11th Street from Florida Avenue to Georgia Avenue will be closed from 3 a.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. Sunday for the Downtown Craft Show.
