TAMPA — It’ll be "Party Time, Excellent" at Tampa Theatre this weekend.
The theatre chose wacky metalheads Wayne and Garth to host three days of Wine’s World, riffing off Mike Myers/Dana Carvey’s 1992 classic Wayne’s World movie for the 16th annual WineFest benefit that’ll run Thursday (March 1) through Saturday (March 3).
A huge wooden deck will extend from the stage all the way to the rear of the theater, perfect for watching the enthusiastic sidekicks under the starry ceiling on Thursday (March 1), dining at a fancy wine dinner on Friday (March 2) and sampling dozens of wines and gourmet bites on Saturday (March 3). Guests must be 21 or older with government-issued ID.
The theatre made a "good call," rescheduling the biggest fundraiser of the year from early September due to Hurricane Irma’s unwelcome visit, said Jill Witecki, director of marketing & community relations.
The new dates happen to coincide with two other major happenings that weekend. The Gasparilla Festival of the Arts will fill nearby waterfront Curtis Hixon on Saturday and Sunday.
"WineFest would be a good way to wind down the day," Witecki said.
The other event, the red carpet Hollywood Awards Night with a live screening of ABC’s coverage of the Academy Awards, was long set for March 4. Theatre officials hope patrons will choose to "live in the now" and celebrate all the weekend events.
