Teen critically injured as he tries to cross Sligh Avenue

TAMPA -- A 16-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car Friday afternoon as he was crossing northbound on Sligh Avenue.

He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, according to Tampa Police. The teen’s identity has not been released.

The crash, which occurred at 3:44 p.m., has closed the intersection of Sligh Avenue and N. Rome Avenue for several hours as police investigate the scene.

Tampa Bay Christian Academy is near that intersection. Police did not specify if the 16-year-old is a student there.

The identity of the driver has not been released.
