A tale of gambling heartache

Laverne and Janet A. Dennison of Brooksville saved their money for 53 years. But now, nearly all of it is gone. Their daughter-in-law, Jennifer Dennison, is accused of stealing more than $500,000 from the elderly couple to fuel her multimillion-dollar gambling addiction. Today, Laverne, 88, has little more than grocery money to care for himself and his 73-year-old wife, who suffers from advanced-stage dementia. Hernando County sheriff's Detective Irene Gray worked for months to unravel the complicated tale. Jennifer Dennison, 42, of Bushnell was arrested Tuesday on theft-related charges. The report stated that she spent more than $14 million at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa during a two-year period. Her winnings were about $13 million. Story, 1A
