Largo woman turns 100 years old

Meda Collins of Largo celebrated her 100th birthday on March 5. She was born in Fort Meade, grew up in Hernando County, married Edward B. Farmer in 1928 and moved to Largo in 1932. Her husband, who died in 1981, was the Atlantic Coast Line railroad agent. Collins moved to Mountain Rest, S.C., and returned to the Largo area in 1989. Her big "claim to fame" is she has absolutely no cavities in her pearly white teeth and attributes her good health to taking no medications and eating only the healthy food she needs. Collins is one of eight children and has a younger brother, Doyle Peters, 89, and a younger sister, Jackie Wrede, 83, still living.
