Armed robber holds up Quik Stop with his baby girl in the car, police say

ST. PETERSBURG — A father with his toddler in his car was arrested minutes after he robbed a convenience store on Thursday, police said.

St. Petersburg police got a call at 1:48 p.m. reporting a masked robber at QuikThru on 4th Street N. Police said the robber pointed a gun at the clerk.

Witnesses gave police a description of the robber's car. Just six minutes after the robbery was reported, a patrol officer saw the car, made a traffic stop at 7th Avenue N and Grove Street and arrested Edward Eric Melendez, 30, of St. Petersburg.

Melendez had a mask and a gun in the car, police said, as well as his 18-month-old daughter.

He was charged with armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and child endangerment.
