ST. PETERSBURG — Police have no suspects in a rash of early morning tire-slashings around the area of 46th St. N and 20th Ave. N on Friday that targeted 25 cars.
St. Petersburg police spokesman George Kajtsa said such crimes "happen in a rash and stop for awhile" and aren't considered unusual. He estimated at 50 tires were cut.
Kim Euchenhofer of 27th Ave. N had two low-profile tires ruined on her Lexus, costing $609 to replace.
"Insurance covered it, but that's a lot of money and there were a lot of cars that had tires cut around here," she said.
At least a dozen of her neighbors also were hit, she said, making for a busy morning for tow trucks on her street.
The Harshaw neighborhood has been otherwise uneventful in her nine years there, she said, noting that police suggested the vandalism could be the work of some "knucklehead kids."
